| What are Blue green Algae? |
Cyanobacteria is the scientific name for blue-green algae, or "pond scum."Bluegreen algae is a single celled organism that produces its own food through photosynthesis. The first recognized species were blue-green in colour, which is how the algae got their name. Species identified since range in colour from olive-green to red.
Wild species grow in lakes and waterways, consuming whatever nutrients are in the water. Some species of cyanobacteria are toxic just like mushrooms and some land plants. Most kinds of microcystis, anabaena and aphanizomenon flos-aquae are toxic. Wild blue-green algae has not been subject to spirulina's long safety testing.
Blue Green Algae is harvested directly from the clean mineral-rich waters of Klamath Lake. This pristine lake, nestled in a remote area of the Cascades of Southern Oregon, offers the perfect growth environment for this wild fresh water algae. Using our own harvesting equipment, we gather the algae. screen it and it is then FLASH AIR DRIED to protect the algae's delicate cell structure and its unique nutritional profile. This special care allows us to bring you all the whole food benefits of Klamath Blue Green Algae in convenient easy-to-take capsule form. |
